It went on hiatus from 2015 to 2016, to return this year with a substantial redesign. The 2017 Evora 400s new aluminum chassis saves 6.6 pounds versus the old one, and other weight-saving measures contribute to a total reduction of 48 pounds for the manual and 50 pounds for the automatic. The Evora 400 is powered by a 400-hp supercharged 3.5-liter V-6 sourced from Toyota. Production is limited to 150 units for 2017. The mantra of the late Colin Chapman, Lotuss founder, was simplify, then add lightness. Lotus has added some new weight-saving options for 2017, including the Carbon Pack with carbon-fiber for the front splitter section, roof panels, rear wing center, rear diffuser finish, front access panel, and mirror caps, as well as an optional titanium sport exhaust and lithium ion battery (-22 pounds each). As befits a sports car with the Lotus name, the Evora's handling is lively, steering is light yet responsive, and the brakes are excellent, offering as much pure fun a driver can have on a twisty road or track. After a two-year hiatus, the Lotus Evora returns for 2017 as the extensively reworked Evora 400. Its chassis is stiffer, it's easier to get into and out of, and the V6 engine is more powerful. You can be sure that the Evora 400 is precise, fast and rewarding to drive, yet is more well-rounded than the old Lotus Elise and Exige.
